چکیده

Process Safety within Pfizer has evolved over a 25 year period and this paper briefly discusses why and how this has happened and what an assessment program should look like. This growth has led to an investment in equipment, people and facilities but in today’s competitive environment it is critical we examine how we can maintain a safe working environment whilst using our resource in the most efficient way. This can be achieved by ensuring a safety assessment is not an “add on”, but an integral part of chemical development. The use of newer and more efficient calorimetry techniques will be discussed along with the use of non specialist lab resource and equipment, to help provide appropriate safety information for the intended scale of operation. The development of a modern day strategy for the use of theoretical calculations for reaction heats also forms a major component of this evolving approach.

Genetic k-Means Clustering Approach for Mapping Human Vulnerability to Chemical Hazards in the Industrialized City: A Case Study of Shanghai, China

Reducing human vulnerability to chemical hazards in the industrialized city is a matter of great urgency. Vulnerability mapping is an alternative approach for providing vulnerability-reducing interventions in a region. This study presents a method for mapping human vulnerability to chemical hazards by using clustering analysis for effective vulnerability reduction. Taking the city of Shanghai a...

Determination of thermodynamic parameters of produced materials from (ATTZ) with boron nitride nano-cages in different conditions of temperature, with DFT method

6-Amino-1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-b][1,2,4,5]tetrazine (ATTz)is an explosive material, that has been synthesized from the reaction of 3,6-diaminotetrazine , with nitrous acid and then sodium azide. In the simplest terms, an explosive is defined as a substance, which on initiation by friction, impact, shock, spark, flame, heating, or any simple application of an energy pulse, undergoes a rapid chemical...

Kinetic Mechanism Reduction Using Genetic Algorithms, Case Study on H2/O2 Reaction

For large and complex reacting systems, computational efficiency becomes a critical issue in process simulation, optimization and model-based control. Mechanism simplification is often a necessity to improve computational speed. We present a novel approach to simplification of reaction networks that formulates the model reduction problem as an optimization problem and solves it using geneti...

Application of runaway reaction mechanism generation to predict and control reactive hazards

Many industrial incidents are caused by thermal runaway reactions. Therefore, a good understanding of runaway reactions is necessary to predict and control reactive hazards. A detailed kinetic modeling approach is proposed to simulate runaway reactions under industrial conditions. This paper addresses the first step of this approach-mechanism generation. Computational chemistry was employed to ...
